Let's practise gratefulness today to celebrate the beauty and wonder that exists within and around us. I mean today feels as good a day to do that as any, right?!
The What -
Start or finish each one of your days this week with a few moments of gratitude. Discover the beauty in the small things, acknowledge the blessings you have, and express gratitude for the moments that bring joy to your life. Simply list in your mind anything and everything you can think of to be grateful for. It can also help to think of a difficult time and compare it to today.
If today hasn't been a good one for you, go back to basics. Like being grateful for having air in your lungs, the fact that the sun rose today and that you are here, doing your best. Embrace the power of gratefulness and let it illuminate your path.
The Why -
In a world that can feel as if it is filled with chaos and constant demands, it's easy to overlook the everyday wonders that surround us. Cultivating a sense of gratefulness can shift our perspective, enhance our well-being, and bring peace to our hearts.
Unfortunately, I know all too well what it feels like to struggle to find gratitude when life feels like it's been a collection of bad days recently. We all have ups and downs but some periods of our lives can be way more down than up. As hard as it is to find gratitude in these times, it's really when we most need the strength we can get from finding it.
Gratefulness is kind of a little bit magic. Once you catch it, you find it infuses your day with positivity and a level of resilience you may not realise you have. It allows us all to focus on what we have rather than what we lack, giving a sudden sense of abundance and richness in our lives. When we take the time to focus on what we are grateful for, we also invite more positive thoughts and then potentially happiness and fulfilment follows.
The Power of Gratefulness
Gratefulness can really shape our outlook on life. When we practice gratefulness, we shift our focus from scarcity to abundance, from negativity to positivity, and from stress to serenity. It allows us to appreciate the simple pleasures, cherish the relationships that bring us happiness, and find beauty in the everyday moments. It opens our hearts to receive love, kindness, and good vibes, creating a ripple effect of positivity that can also lift those around us.
Gratefulness invites us to pause, breathe, and take a moment to be present in the here and now, soaking in the moments of goodness, love, and beauty that we sometimes forget are right there all around us. It reminds us to be thankful for the gifts we have, the experiences we've shared, and the lessons we've learned along the way.
So seriously, it can be pretty powerful stuff!
Practising Gratefulness
If being grateful feels particularly tough right now, then trust me, that's when this has the most benefit. So here are some ways to incorporate gratefulness easily into your daily life -
Morning Reflection - Start your day with a moment of gratitude. Take a few minutes to reflect on the good people/things/happenings in your life. Think about experiences that have brought you joy and the people you cherish. Express thanks in your mind for the gift of a new day and set yourself a positive tone to begin on. Whislt having a shower is also a great time to do this. Skip stressing about the day ahead and just focus on what you are grateful for while you wash your lovely locks.
Gratitude Journal - Keep a journal where you can write down things you are grateful for each day. It could be a kind gesture from a friend, a beautiful sunset, a moment of peace and quiet, or simply the fact that you have a roof over your head and food on your table. Writing down your blessings can help you cultivate a deeper sense of appreciation and mindfulness.
Express Appreciation - Take the time to thank the people in your life who have made a difference, shown kindness, or supported you in challenging times. Expressing appreciation not only strengthens your relationships but also brings a sense of fulfilment and connection to others.
Practice Mindfulness - Embrace the practice of mindfulness by being fully present in the moment and savouring the experiences, sights, sounds, and sensations around you. Mindful living allows you to appreciate the beauty of the here and now, fostering a sense of gratitude and contentment.
Gratitude Walks - Take a walk in nature and immerse yourself in the beauty of the natural world. Notice the colours of the leaves, the song of the birds, the rustling of the trees. Focus your mind on the wonders of the earth and the sense of peace and tranquility it brings.
Gratefulness Meditation - Set aside a few minutes to meditate on the things you are grateful for. Focus on your breath, centre your mind, and allow feelings of thankfulness to flow through you. Visualise the good things in your life and let gratitude wash over you.
Celebrate Your Wins - Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, big or small. Whether it's completing a task, facing a fear, or making it through a difficult day, take a moment to pat yourself on the back and express gratitude for your resilience, strength, and determination. If you are struggling to get through those tough days right now, here's some ideas on how to handle the really tough days.
Incorporate one or more of these practices into your daily routine and gratefulness really can transform your outlook, enhance your well-being, and enrich your life.
If you feel like something has been missing lately, try a good dose of gratefulness to get back that sense of goodness and sunshine in your life.
The Power of Gratefulness -
Now i'm not saying that being grateful for a few things today is going to completely turn your life around tomorrow but over time, it makes quite the difference. Each moment you practice gratefulness presents an opportunity to discover joy, connection, and abundance in your life. So embrace the power of gratitude, celebrate the good things in your life, and allow gratitude to guide you on your path.

The who -
Honestly my need to find gratefulness came from a bad mood I was stuck in for the best part of a couple years. Yep, that long! It was a time of one bad thing after another and I ended up looking for the bad in everything and entirely forgetting all the things I had to be grateful for. Once I started switching this around, the world got brighter, the days got easier and I handled any tough times a lot better. Practising gratefulness now serves as a reminder to me that using the power of my own mind can illuminate even the darkest of days, and your mind absolutely can too.
So if you've been stuck in a bad mood for a time, I promise from experience, gratitude is tried and tested and it really does help in shifting you back to happy. Try one of the gratefulness techniques each day this week and see how you feel in comparison next week.
